Title: open air colony
Post by: bmacior on November 22, 2009, 08:40:46 PM
I've seen pictures of these, but never thought I'd see one in person.  Retreived this yesterday.  Only a half dozen bees came out when we started to cut the branch; other than that no bees, no honey.  Appx 21x12x12.

Thought about that, but think I will make a display case for it for use by our Association.

That is a grand idea, be sure to post up some pics of the finished project.

VERY COOL!  Thanks for sharing.  It'll could be a real bugger to transport but is you can get it down via that main branch as a hold the display could be very impressive.

I wonder if a colony in an open air hive has ever actually survived a winter?
