I have to go out to the bees today in ten inches of snow. should I dig them out completely or let the snow insulate them? thought I might take a tarp and surround them with a straw layer. My nerves are getting the best of me. I guess the question is to let bee or not too let bee that is the question :-\ John
Let them be. They will be fine if you left them food. Best to check after a storm if you are able and clear snow from the bottom of the hive so the air can get in.
Dont disturb them. If you need a fix buy a stethoscope at the drug store and listen
I am mountain camp feeding them, just two days ago, Thanks for the thoughts I do need a fix, the scope sounds good and to go with it maybe I can find one of those little spy cameras and sneak a peek. I haven't been this nervous since my first child was born.....John
For the life of me, I can't see how honey bees have survived 65 million years without us! :-D
you might want to clear the entrance. they will fly if the temp gets up a bit. other than that, leave the snow.
don't be surprised to see lots of dead bees scattered on the snow if they fly.
