My small apiary in the first snow of the year.  Not much to look at, but I'm kinda proud of it.

Lenape13... you should be proud. Nice little setup, very similar to my own but more colorful.

I really should start painting hives in multi-color loudness. It helps the bees find "home" right?

Today is +39F and raining. No poo-poo flights today. :(

While it has been suggested that color differences may help the girls find their way home, I chose to paint them for different reasons.  I figured I would take advantage of the cheap mistints at my local Lowes, but I did so by letting the kids in the neighborhood choose the actual colors.  It gives them a sense of ownership and gets them involved.

I like everyone's hives and some are so colorful.  I never thought that the hives being painted different colors the girls could find them better. 8-)

Lenape13 definitely a 'cool' setup! I have been buying the mismatched paint at home depot for the last couple of months since I'm getting some hive bodies ready for my splits in the spring. Sure beats the drab white boxes!
