i'm a beehaver right now - was sick most of the fall into winter and when i did feel good, it was pouring rain or wicked cold. i didn't get a chance to prep the hive for winter. i didn't get the mouse guard in place, i didn't check the honey reserves, i didn't feed them. if they survive i will be impressed. if they don't, i deserve to be haunted.
just felt the need to confess my sin against my bees :(
your bees will probably be the only ones that survive
you are not the first, nor will you be the last, to "neglect" your bees. unlike some of the other things we keep, bees can stand it.

i found an inverse relationship to the survival rate of the bees - the more prepared i am for the honey harvest the following season, the less likely the bees will survive the winter. :-D
Hey, this sounds like a bona fide bee-keeping plan, and one that would work quite well for me :)
Best of luck. Unfortunately, my 2 hives that I neglected last summer almost certainly will not make it, but that's for totally different reasons than yours. So, best wishes!
Well I was guilty of almost the same, mine are dead outs. Nice theory dont hold true for me. :(
