Title: What's the best set up for a new Hive?
Post by: Greg watkevich on January 24, 2010, 11:45:42 AM
I am setting up 2 new hives and constructed (4) 9 5/8" hive bodies and was intending to use 2 of them for deep supers on top of each hive.  I am now contemplating that it might be better to build some medium supers and use them instead. I understand that the deep super will be heavier, but not sure of the other pro's or con's to using a deep super vs. a medium super?  Any information is appreciated.
Thanks

All deeps will work Greg, I have a friend who runs all deep equipment for maximum honey production. The weight can be an issue, but you don't have to remove the deep with frames all in one, you could take some frames out to lighten the load, then move them.

It really comes down to preferance, some use all mediums. You'll find most all commercial types use all deeps.
