I think we are all weirdos buddy.
It depends on who you talk to. Some say dont do it at all, some say the bees dont heat the boxes just the cluster and its ok to take a peak.
Me, I opened mine in January when it was in the low 30s and a bit breezy. I also opened em today (there still alive) and it was twenty five degrees out, no breeze, full sun, perfect. Got some video of it. Im in the process of converting files and uploading (takes like years with dsl) them to you tube as I type this. Hopefully the videos are entertaining for the beeks here when I finally get them uploaded (today I hope).

Me too...the little lady thinks that the stethoscope is pretty cool.
Listened with a stethoscope a couple days ago. Didn't hear anything in the hive started from a package in June :? but the feral hive was loud :-D

I don't have a stethoscope, so my ear and side of face gets kinda wet and dirty, but hey, I got a buzzz!
