Title: Early blooming plants in Southwest Virginia
Post by: Bee Whisper82 on March 01, 2010, 12:41:04 PM
Hello all,

This is my second year in beekeeping and was wondering what is the first plants or trees that will get the honey flow going in my "neck of the woods"  and what month will it start.

I will be happy with any advice.                                      Thanks
                                                                                   James

Wow!  I want one of those for Georgia!  That is exactly the kind of chart I need.

Think I can add 1-2 weeks to the piedmont one and have it work? :)

Thanks again, iddee!

love,
ziffa

Maples  are slowly coming out here and the weather is so funny but i see by the weekend it is going to be real nice  i see alot ofmaples near me blooming but not in my yard yet but when they do i think my bees are going to need alot of room. I talked today with a freind and he told me that he was cutting a tree and had to cut a limb on a maple tree and it looked like some one was pouring water out of the limb it was so full of water so maybe the nectar will be the same i hope.

Thanks everyone for the info.  I am hoping for a great honey crop this year because I was unable to harvest any last year.

     Any more advice is welcome

Have you willows there? They are different species and bloom in different times.
