Title: Bees removed
Post by: csalt on March 12, 2010, 07:02:41 PM
Well, i got some bees (about 200-400) out of a bathroom wall on a golf course a few days ago. I put them in a deep brood box along with some of there comb (i set the comb peices in the middle and removed several frames) which had some brood and pollen and a little honey. It has been rainning steady for two days now and the bees are still in the box. They are starting to propalise the comb to one of the bare frames. I also put a boardman feeder on the hive. I'm not sure if i got the queen or not i was short on time. When can i open the hive for a more thorough inspection and do you think the bees will make it. The weather has been in the high 60's but rainy. If the queen isn't in there do you think the bees will turn one of the brood into a queen cell?

i try to leave them alone for a good week, but if you are not sure you got the queen it would be good to determine that early.  i'd check on the next warm and dry day that you have.
