Hello Dear Bees Friends,
LTNS
It has been a while since I have visited this forum, hope everyone is well and happy. I neglected my 3 hives last year. The primary hive was always a challenge and I think they swarmed last Fall.
I broke down the hive today, lots of empty drawn comb. Some frames have fungus/mold on them, greenish and white...
Question: toss them, spray them with something? What should I do?
Oh and I have a bee expert coming over to help me inspect my 2 remaining colonies which look very strong...
Thanks,
S
Some frames have? How many? How much? I would just cut out the bad stuff and go from there. If they are drawn wax. :)doak
OH so good to see you again Sharon. Missed you so much. I separated my dahlias and have them stored in a root cellar per your instructions.
Welcome back dear sister.
Annette
People Leave the mold alone! the bees will clean it themselfs.
Ah Annette, How kind, thank you!
and thank you doak and newbee guy..I will leave the mold alone, this is great news!
Hi DVD,
I spray a dilute solution of nano-colloidal ionic silver, tea tree oil, neem oil & bt aizawai on (empty) frames as preventive and remedy for mold, fungus & wax moth. If the frames are really bad you could potentially just rip all the wax out, intersperse them with fully draw frames and let them draw it out themselves "foundationless"/natural cell. Both of these (organic) techs are in use and working well here. :)
Cheers,
Dane
Good advise Dane B
I was debating whether or not to spray them with a vinegar solution and tea tree oil and set them in sunlight.
They have mold, I feel, due to the fact that "no one was home to clean"...
There wasn't much mold, just a light dusting here and there...
Thanks for that recipe though, it sounds lovely...
