Title: Release the queens
Post by: Mason on March 18, 2010, 05:15:55 PM
I did something stupid.

last Saturday I installed (2) packages.  Both had plenty of built out comb.

I forgot to remove the wooden plug over the candy plug.  Today (day 6) I realized what I had done.  I did a very gentle inspection with no smoke and pulled the plugs out of the queen cage hence releasing them.

Do you think that was the right thing to do?  Maybe I should have posted this before I released them but that's just not my style I suppose.

I think it should be fine.  After 6 days, the bees should be acclimatized to her.  But then, I'm the kind of guy who would also forget to remove the wooden plug, so...  :)

No worry!

All should be just fine. Thank God she is a mated queen or you most likely would have a drone layer!

They usually tell you to let them out manually if they haven't been released already (I forgot the recommended time frame though)
