I'm starting three packages in April. My uncle gave me some shallows and mediums full of capped honey to help my girls get started. When I hive the packages and place the honey frames in, do I also need to put a feeder on them as well or will the frames of honey be enough? (2 shallows and one medium - all 10 frames full to nearly full of honey).
I would also put 1:1 syrup on the new packages. They need a lot of food to make wax for comb building. You will be surprised how much syrup they will use getting started. My packages used about 2 gallons per week for the first couple of months.
I had one package last year go through a gallon of syrup a day! I called it my super hive! They built comb at a very rapid pace.
