Title: Got some bees!
Post by: wfuavenger on March 22, 2010, 01:43:45 PM
Feel free to check out my blog where I posted all about it http://www.jaredsbees.blogspot.com (http://www.jaredsbees.blogspot.com)

They are really quiet today. I guess the trauma of being uprooted and moved in the rain tired them out a bit. I did sneak a look down through the hive top feeder and they have already started building comb over night! They are not touching the sugar water or pollen sub or patty so I guess they are using the frame of honey I put in there with them. There was a lot of chewed cappings on the ground below the hive.

1'X12' for the vertical parts. I cut the ends of the 1X12 to make 2 cross braces to space the hive supports wide enough to hold my supers and equipment off the "ground" when I need to set them aside. The foot braces are 6"X12' along the bottoms for extra stability. All of the woodenware is stained with pecan stain and sealed with Helsman Urethane semi-gloss Varnish to preserve them almost forever. I did the outside of my hive bodies only. I forgot to do the top feeder, so after I get these guys established, here comes the stain and sealant.

The back porch is only temporary until some shrubs and flowers build up in about a year. Then they are going off the back deck by the woods on some cinderblocks to keep them 18"+ off the ground.

That's beautiful! Sounds like the mead making has been fun, too :)

Mead is kinda fun, the cost is a bit more than I expected. It should pay off in the end though.
