WHEN PASSING BY MY BEEYARD I NOTICED ALOT OF BEES FLYING AROUND THE TALL GRASS AND SMALL TREES .I WENT TO SEE AND THERE ON THE GROUND AND UP A SMALL TREE.A BIG BALL OF BEES. I GOT A DEEP AND PUT IT BY THE BEES AND TOOK A 3" PUTTY KNIFE AN D PUT 1/2 OF THE BEES IN THE BOX.THE REST WENT RIGHT IN.I DID 2 SPLITS THIS PASS WEEKEND AND THATS THE ONLY BEES I HAVE IN THAT YARD.I CHECKED AND IT DIDN"T COME FROM THEM.2 SWARMS IN 8 DAYS ,CAN'T WAIT TILL THE NEXT 8 DAYS'. :bee:SCHAWEE :bee:
I've not found a swarm nor captured in my main apiary yet. They've thrown them, but I've never seen them. But in my own back yard for some reason I've had 4 swarms from other hives in the past 3 years. Those were the ones I saw, no telling how many I may have missed. My apiary is 3 miles away from my home. The swarms aren't mine as I've got young marked queens, to do my best to avoid throwing swarms in my neighborhood. I always check my hives after the swarms to see if there's a population crash and a new queen. To date the respective marked queens were home as well as their population.
All I can figure is the smell of my hives interests swarms. I'm not sure where they're coming from but I'll do my best to keep catching them. I've been lucky enough to catch 2 of the swarms. When swarm season starts I now have traps set up in my own back yard. I'd like to be batting more than .500 in my own back yard. You might want to put a swarm trap or two.
i think the swarm came from the woods behind my bee yard, its 4 acres.i will go looking for the mother hive this weekend
i have wild swarms come in all the time. usually 5 to 10 a year. i think they just come in for the bee smell.
i always have a trap in my backard ready to go.
