guess dumm luck likes me! i got home from work and walked out back where the new spring queens are waiting to mate.
i walked up to one that was a swarm i caught 2 days ago that had an unmated queen.
looked at the hole and saw the queen walk out look up and take off un escorted.
i sat down to watch and see when she returned and after 10 or so min i saw hwe land and walk back in,
she had returned with a white bulbous piece of anatomy up her backside that i saw clearly as she walked in.
guess that mating flight was a success :piano:

Wow that is amazing.. you read about stuff and hear it from other.. (like today) and them whammo you get to see it for yourself. Go get a lottery ticket since luck is with you today.!! :-D

happened too fast to get photos with an i phone, she flew as i walked up! shot back in before photo possible, sorry :-\
bailey
Incredible--good for you!!
I went out back and my bees were going nuts today on a very pretty sunny day. Was hoping I might see what you saw Bailey as I have a few swarms that I believe had virgins.
No such luck though.
Glad you were able to see that, priceless!
Yes, I'm jealous!
...JP ;)
Congratulations on your experience getting to witness that, pretty darn cool.
Only 10 minutes?? I thought they were out for hours getting mated
Seriously, I really did not know it was so fast. Learned something new today as well.
i dont know how long there supposed to stay out but she was pretty quick getting home after she was
done.
now to wait the week or so to see eggs.

I have read they may go out several times. :)doak
Wow, that is pretty neat, I've never seen a queen willingly outside the hive.
But what you saw just reminds me again that some drone picked the unluckiest way to get lucky...
