Title: Piping Queens...
Post by: KD4MOJ on April 07, 2010, 10:28:04 AM
well i had a surprise yesterday... while inspecting Hive #2  looking for eggs, larvae or Her Worship... when I lifted frame #4 all of a sudden I heard the piping! i had seen the videos on it but i had never heard it from one of my two hives before. I zero'ed in on Her Worship as she ran around the frame looking pretty fat & sassy, but no fresh eggs, only capped brood.

Oh yeah... the 1st 4 frames had swarm cells on them, so after spotting the queen, I did remove frames with the cells to a nuc, listening to the frame in case one of the queens were answering back. Only Her Worship was piping as far as I could tell. There were some swarm cells on 2 remaining frames just in case my piping queen actually swarms. i dunno at this point... time will tell.

It surely swarms at once when weather is good. Or they have swarmed.

.
If queens are piping, they need only a good weather and next morning nd they go.
You are lucky that you heard them.
