Hi folks,
:)
I caught a swarm in a small lemon tree yesterday and made a short video which I can't link to directly, cos I haven't posted enough times and am therefore untrustworthy!. I will email the link to the beemaster!
youtube code is CdL41Q4C3UA so if you cut and paste this code into the youtube searchbox you can see the video!

capturing a swarm (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdL41Q4C3UA#)
Next time, it might be easier if you were to remove the center frames so the swarm would have a place to land when you shake them loose from the tree branch. :-D
That was a great video. I love it when non-beeks see us get the swarms with no protection on it gives me a great opportunity to teach about the girls. Good job and thanks for the video.
Great video and a great catch.
I would say as big as that swarm was they will have those 5 frames pulled out in no time flat.
Seemed to be very gentle bees and not flying that much even after you brushed them into the nuc.

Great catch! I was seriously wondering if they were all gonna fit. Yep, they'll have that drawn out in no time.

Nice swarm catch. I also agree with Two Bees that it probably would have helped if one or two of the frames in the center of the box would have been taken out to give them room when you shook them from the limb. I learned this the hard way when I first started catching swarms. Good catch though and I also agree they will have the five frames drawn out in not time.
Nice Video!
I always just use an empty cardboard box to catch them in. Much easier, especialy if they are in an inconvenient place. Then I dump them into a hive that is all set up and ready for them.
Very nice. Thanks for taking the time to take it and post it. I'm looking forward to the swarm calls starting up here. I always have a frame of brood or eggs in there to make sure they don't leave. Nothing stinks quite as much as having a swarm that you put your time and energy into catching up and leave for unknown reasons to an unknown location.
:)
Great video - you are an inspiration to all of us wimps who still use suits! :-D
