Title: Honey supers and swarm cells
Post by: gardeningfireman on April 12, 2010, 09:49:45 PM
Checked hive #1 today. Lots of brood of all ages, lots of pollen and honey stores in the deeps. Med. super completely drawn out and honey started. Noticed about four cells that looked like they might be queen cells. I added another med. super with 8 undrawn frames(some with & some without foundation) and 2 drawn frames. I also put up 2 swarm traps about 30 yards away on opposite sides. Swarm season doesn't normally start here in OH until May, but it has been consistently above normal temps. for a month. Did I do right?

You could remove the swarm cells and put them into a nuc or 2 and control your swarm.
