I took 1 frame of brood and the bees on it from my healthy hive and put it in a nuc last sat. I looked all over the frame for the queen and did not see her. I looked in the nuc today to see if they started a queen cell and i seen the queen. I guess it would be like the bees swarmed but i have no queen cells in the good hive. What should i do? I would rather not buy a new queen but if yall think i should i will. I did open the good hive and it looks like they are making a queen cell on the bottom of one of the frames but it may be an old one.
If the old hive is strong and had freshly laid eggs to work with, I'd say you'd do well to give it a shot.
The eggs she laid Sat. before you removed her would be hatching today. Why shouldn't the queen cell be viable. You may have a few more by tomorrow, but I wouldn't disturb it again until Sat. Then you can better decide what action to take.
I think your "mistake", is the correct method! Get your
Queen cells from full hives and the Queen into the nuc to keep as backup and add new bars or frames as needed for honey.
