Title: Texas Honey Flow??
Post by: johnwm73 on May 06, 2010, 01:56:31 PM
I have two second year hives that I put a super on about a month ago on each.  I opened them a week ago and both hives are full of bees with an empty frame in the top hive body. But the rest are full with brood and honey. When should I expect them to work and start building comb in the supers?

When they are ready. I had four hives go gang busters two weeks ago and one just sitting there going we are not in the mood yet.

This week they are in the mood.

Most of the bees in the hive are female. That means they change their mind when they feel like it without explanation.  ;)

Sincerely,
Brendhan

I've spent the time to research and make a Central Texas Honey Flow Calendar.

If any Texas Beek can add more info to it, let me know.

I live in the southern portion of the Texas panhandle and I've searched high and low for any kind of calendar of the honey flow in this region and can't find anything.  Someone help me.

Here in Southeast Texas, our main flow is from tallow trees, and it takes place from about May 15th and runs til about June 30th. This year, it was only about 3 weeks long. Spring drought killed us.
