Title: New package installed but no eggs laid
Post by: shadowdogs on May 10, 2010, 02:55:04 PM
I installed three packages last weekend. When I inspected yesterday. The first hive had lots of honey gathered but I couldn't find any eggs. The second hive had lots of honey and very few eggs. The third hive had lots of honey and eggs. How long should I wait before getting new queens for the first two? If I inspect in a few more days and find the same result would that be too late to re-queen? How long is too long?

Sometimes it takes them a while to ramp up egg laying. Give it some time.

Some queens start laying right away, some wait a week or two. Yes, it can make you nervous when you get one of those late bloomers.

I hope that's it. Thanks for your input.
