Title: Question concerning two new hives
Post by: Don K on May 13, 2010, 11:06:46 PM
Last Sat. I picked up 2 four frame nucs of Italians. I installed them in deep brood hives. I am feeding them as they learn their new countryside. I have observed them bringing in pollen and they are drawing comb. I am considering adding a 2nd deep brood box when they fill most of the new frames. I live in the lower part of Alabama and think it would help with our extremely hot summers. I am not expecting any honey this first season as I want them to have sufficient stores for the winter. I would like some opinions on having one or two brood boxes.

My wife and I are really enjoying watching the bees and are excited about working them together. Keeping bees is neat. :-D :)

Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Don

Being in SHB country, let them fill the first one fully before adding the second. Other than that, go for it.
