Title: removing supers
Post by: Gware on May 23, 2010, 06:03:32 PM
i read in a book to remove supers when they get capped and extract them! would this be an acceptable practice if u had a limited number of supers in which u could not keep adding them?

if you got a super capped and ready to come off and that is the only super you have on you may have missed out on a lot of extra honey. when i super i super strong hives with 3 or 4 supers they will keep collecting nectar during a heavy flow but if they dont have any where to put it they will slow down better to have to many than not enough

But to answer your question, you can take a super, or individual frames, when capped, and put them back after extracting.

As RR said, you will get a smaller harvest when they run out of room.
