Hello all, I guess I learned today the definition of a dry swarm. I took a swarm from work a week ago. There has been a small cluster of maybe a hundred bees that I didn't get as they were already flying in the morning when I took the main swarm. I went today to look at this little cluster. I was six feet away and they thought that was close enough, They unclustered and said hello. One got me just below my right eye! No provoking them or anything! After that had to spray them as I have some officers that are very allergic. Honestly as my eye was starting to swell a little I didn't feel as bad as I thought I would while spraying them. :(
Sometimes the girls do get a little testy; just like human girls :shock:! Yesterday I was walking toward the hives and was still about 50 feet away when one lone bee decided to become a kamikaze! She was so persistent, I ended up having to whack her!
Actually, that wasn't a dry swarm, just a bunch of pizzed off hungry bees you left behind. Keep a bottle of sugar water with you so you can use it next time this happens. After you spray them with food, you'd be surprised how their mood changes.
Try to remove the catch box at night if you can, to insure you get the majority of the bees.
