We noticed several small black soft beetle like insects with red legs and black wings over what appears to be red backs, or at least red edged bodies, on the tops of a couple of the hives. I wish I had pictures. They were less than 1/2 the size of an adult hive beetle, and they are soft when you squash them. They don't go crunch, just squish. They do have little bulbs on their antennae. Are these another kind of hive beetle or hive pest? Immature hive beetles? We treated them as hive beetles. Crush.
I've developed this thing; if you are an insect or in on the hives, and are not a bee, you don't belong there. Crush.
sounds like a sap beetle they look an lot like a hive beatle but are smaller in size what i have been told by kansas state university they are no threat to the hive like the hive beetle. i still kill them when i see them but i have never seen them bee a problem
