Title: What's the going rate for beeswax per pound?
Post by: Flygirl on June 02, 2010, 09:07:53 PM
I've had a couple artists contact me wanting to buy wax for encaustic painting.  One said $5 per pound but that sounds too cheap?  I've never sold any before so I'm curious about the going rate.  I'm in Alaska so the bee packages are expensive ~ does that make a difference?
Thanks!  Flygirl

$8.00 a pound down here max for 1 pound at a time.  Less for much more wax bought.   I would think more for Alaska.

Smaller packages commands larger pricing per pound. $5/lb is a pretty much standard rate around here (supply is heavy in FL tho) for 1-2lbs...maybe up to 25lbs or so. 300lbs you'd be lucky to get $2/lb for it.

I have a daughter that just moved to Anchorage in April and is interested in meeting a local beek. Could you sell her a jar or two of your honey?
