Found 2 SHB today in a hive I got from a removal, they are a little bigger than i imagined, squashed both and will have to watch for more soon, got the trick to kill them though,

They may be SHB but there are also several kinds of debris beetles and sap beetles that have the same ping pong antennae and look very similar and like to get into weak beehives.  If they are bigger than you thought, you might want to check pictures of sap beetels and pictures of SHB and see if you really think they are SHB.

Or just do an image search on sap beetels.  There are hundreds of different kinds but many of them look a lot like SHB.

Dang MB, I cant see much difference, no wonder why the guys that had the SHB's in there hives didn't worry about it at first sight, just thought it was a harmless bettle

I'm not saying it's NOT a SHB.  I'm just saying it may not be.  You can send samples to Beltsville, I think.  I took some to the State University entomolgy department here and they were happy to identify them for me.  Mine were not SHB.

I thought this was an interesting topic considering it was posted in 2005. Apparently the SHB had not quiet reached the numbers and strength that is has today?

In 2005 they had just been identified in Nebraska and I had never seen any here yet.
