Title: Will she survive?
Post by: spud on June 12, 2010, 08:57:53 AM
Had a look in one of my hives to check a queen had hatched ok (due yesterday), what I found was  the QC still sealed so I carefully cut and  started to lift the tip of the QC, however what I saw was a red eye and whitish head so I quickly lowered the flap and replaced the frame. It seemed my timing is out but my question is will she survive or will my premature opening of her cell have killed her?

Anyone got any experience of this?  Any answers much appreciated.

I broke a cell open once by accident. similar to what you did, it didn't really matter to me so thats probably why, the day later I checked the bees had repaired the cell. I cut it out and moved it. and it did hatch, so you really don't know. I don't reccomend it. It would depend on if she was damaged, I guess. long as the head wsn't in the tip you cut open. :)

Hey Spud, put your location in your profile, in this case it don't help, but with some questions it helps with location being known. Every location has different answers. Michigan answers are not quite the same as Florida answers.
