Just before my hive swarmed, I discovered drone comb on several frames in my honey super. Now I'm post swarm, and all honey production has halted in that hive. But the frames in which I found the drones are almost full of capped honey...
My question: Can I just cut out that dark drone stuff and go ahead and crush and strain the capped honey? I mean, if I'm not using an extractor, I don't have to wait for the dark areas to be capped, do I?
Yes, go ahead and extract. You can discard the brood or just extract the frames that are without brood.
Good Luck,
Steve
Thanks, Steve. Done. Gorgeous. Delicious. Happy.

That is very clear honey . What kind of plants produce that kind of honey color?
Shawn...I agree...it's almost as clear as water, isn't it? And it tastes bright and great! I have no idea why it's not darker...there was lots of clover when they were storing this.
That looks like syrup to me. How much did you feed them?
Could be thistle honey...I don't get it here, but shawee brought some to Bud's that was clear like that.

thistle won't be in bloom for a couple of months up here and I would guess in ohio too? Did you feed syrup?
I didn't feed them anything. Over the winter and until March I had dry sugar available for them, but they hardly touched it. I removed it in March. They've not had any sugar water from me. Ever. This hive was a swarm I collected a year ago. They've not needed anything from me.
I got honey that clear. My bee yard is surrounded by clover fields, dogwood trees, and there's an apple orchard about 2-3 miles down the road, but they may not get that far.
Very, very nice. My mead senses are tingling... :-D

the lighter honeys seem to make meads that are ok but not very interesting in taste.
my darkest honeys have made the best meads as of yet.
bailey.
I bet there are a few others that get the clear honey. It sure is not any different than that post of the blue honey, well I think it was blue. It should should make a nice presentation piece at a farmers market. Just think what you could sell if you had clear, blue, and the golden color honey in jars for people to see. This might be a good idea for a picture post "What color is your honey" or something like that.
Do you have black locust around? Black locust makes water white honey. :-D
very unique color, Made from what ever have you, Nice to look at but I sure would like to taste it!!!! I have never tasted bad honey! I have yet not been fortunate enough to get a clear or very light honey. I do have a lot of thistle around but it blooms about the same time as golden rod. Golden rod is quit a bit darker but when you combine the two all I can say is It is Delicious!!!!
