My first trapout will be this weekend.
Without using any framing, I can place the hive box above where the bees are entering the house (chimney/roof). But the cone exit would not be able to be right at the entrance of the hive box, it would be below it by 3-4 inches.
Is this an issue? Or do I need to frame it such that the cone exit is at the entrance of the hive box?
You need to place the box entrance as close to the bottom base of the cone as possible. You trap the bees when they return, not when they exit. They return to the base of the cone, not the tip. The exit of the cone can be in the next county. It has no bearing on the trap.
Very good response. This forum need stars to hand out for good responses!
The best is to have them exit THROUGH the hive...
