went into the hive yesterday and it had a sour smell so I have done some research and i am going to go back in a see if this is what I have. Can and does it spread to other hives? i was thinking about moving the hive to another location because the darn birds were eating the crap out of them this morning. This is a new package that swarmed so then I bought a nuc to get it going again so I am realy disapointed as we have a few bucks invested now and I am afraid it's current location is hopeless.
Hi, rgy. You might have better luck posting this one in the disease and problems section. I have a new thread going there about possible EFB, and someone posted an excellent link about it. Good luck!
Hi
Where in SW Mi are you? I'm in GR area...
Sour smell...could be any number of things.
Flower sources - but this is usually in the fall
Small hive beetle
fermented honey
???
What does the brood look like?
If it is EFB, I think it can spread, but from what I've read it is a stress disease, and it can also be treated by antibiotics. But check out luvin's post...
thanks i will check out the desease section. I think I realy screwed up on the location but I wanted one at the house, didn't think about the wren/marlins or what ever they are that live under the docks, so now that I have tried to rebuild with a nuc hive I end up feeding the birds!!
Location is in Saugatuck. come see us.
