Title: Bees & mothballs?
Post by: Hemlock on June 28, 2010, 11:02:31 AM
The neighbor has 2 hives.  The neighbor also has Copperheads.  She read that mothballs can move snakes out of the area (news to me).  She wanted to spread the balls in the area near her hives.  That's where the snakes are.  I think there would be an issue with putting the mothballs near bees.

Does anyone know for sure?

P.S- I'm not worried about the snakes getting into my beeyard.  I use 3 dogs & .22 mag snake shot to repel them here.  Plus, have offered their services to the neighbor too.

if they're copperheads they need to be removed not negotiated with.   you have the correct method and need to convince your neighbor.
i don't really like the idea of chemicals around the hive and think that may just be a wives tale or urban legend.   it's also claimed that sulpher repels snakes.
