Title: Moving hive - does the queen know?
Post by: montauk170 on June 28, 2010, 07:17:51 PM
Just curious, when you move a hive, obviously the foragers know as they have to readjust but how about the queen?
She rarely comes out after her mating flight, so she probably doesn't know huh?

I can't imagine that she would care.  Nor would it affect her life in the hive.  I think in the beehive it's a need-to-know basis.  The only bees a move should directly affect would be the foraging population.

Once she's mated, she never orients again, so I suppose she might sense some disruption, but doesn't know much else...
