Title: Update on swarms I caught in Michigan woods
Post by: harvey on July 03, 2010, 11:27:06 AM
Today I checked my hives and specifically the ones that are from this year swarms.  All the swarm hives look very good,  lots and lots of brood.  Drawing a lot of comb, all foundationless.  The laying patterns of these swarms looks better than the packages that I bought!  I did find one hive, one out of five that is drawing there comb funny.  Instead of following the starter strips they are kinda overlapping the comb and starting beside the starter strips?  I am not sure if I put wax on the strips in the hive or not?  Shoulda checked that.  Will next time.  I know have all my swarms in two deeps.  all but one has the second deep just about drawn.  One is just now starting with the first hatching of new bees to be any day now. They have five frames of brood on both sides of the frame capped so when they do I am sure they will go to town on that second deep.

Congratulations! Those swarms are some wax drawing machines. You need to deal with the crazy comb soon, it won't get any better.
