Post by: ElDoBill on July 11, 2010, 07:41:38 PM
What's the easiest way to clean the new jars and plastic bears before putting up the honey?

Dishwasher is what I use.

dishwasher if fine.  new only needs a good rinsing out.  wouldn't use the hot dry on the plastic honey bears, but they would probably do ok on the top rack.

Thanks for the replies, I've been using the dishwasher on the rinse cycle, seemed slow and tedious and thought maybe there was a faster way.

The dry cycle is where the jars get sterilized.

hot soapy water.  two rinses.  second with a few drops of bleach.  air dry.

new jars and containers should not need all this.  it's those old canning jars, spaghetti sauce or jelly jars, etc. that need a good cleaning out.

We have two dishwashers, the Kitchenaid and ME, and I get the biggest workout, only use the dishwasher on holidays. If you marry one, make sure you find one that is already doing dishes, sometimes hard to teach new tricks when newly married.
