Hi folks,
As the thread starter says, I was wondering if HBH would be harmful to hummingbirds if you put some in their syrup to stop it from fermenting so soon? :?
Regards,
Pete
I put it in my hummingbird feeders - just thin out my bee syrup. No problems noted and yes, it does make the syrup stay fresher longer.
If you have the Humming Birds I have you shouldn't have to worry about fermentation.
We have to refill our feeders once every day this time of year. Shouldn't Ferment in a day.:)doak
Doak,
I wish I had your problem, but we only get 1 or 2 regulars, so it's a concern for us. :-D

Give them time to find it.
I've been feeding the hummers for the last 6 or 7 years the most we get is 2-3 hummers. Needless to say the syrup spoils before it's used up. So I thought if I used some HBH it might last longer, it's hard to tell when it goes bad. I just want to make sure the HBH won't hurt the hummers and it won't chase them away.
Maybe it is just a new york thing. I know we have a bunch of humming birds here in the south.
Use the smallest feeder you can find. Don't make up your feed ahead of time. Just enough to let it cool if you heat it. Do not refrigerate. A Zinger holds 1 pint. 16 oz's. doak
