Title: Hello from Southern California
Post by: ProPacific on July 14, 2010, 03:15:56 PM
Hello everybody,

Glad to be a part of this forum. Looking here to learn more about bees and share some information I have about bees. Anybody read the book, " The Queen Must Die" by William Longgood? Just started reading it. Very interesting!

I am in the middle of reading this book right now and enjoying every minute of it. Welcome to the forum. Place your location into your profile.

I am here up in Placerville, so beekeeping is very different from where you are.

Stay in touch and let us know how you are doing along the way. You will get all your questions answered here.

Yes I have only got to the first two chapters but I am enjoying the book as well. His writing is so unique and interesting.

We have alot of africanized bee cases down here. How is it going up there?

Thanks for the welcoming!

I have not heard of any cases of Africanized bees up here. I am sure they are coming here one day, but not now.  Also no Small Hive Beetle yet, but they have been sited around the Sacramento Valley Area.

Do you have SHB??

I havent heard of any reports for the small hive beetle. I saw a story the other day about Hawaii having some problems with them though.

Welcome!

Small Hive Beetles near Sacramento????  EEEEK!

That's uncomfortably close to me in Oakland.  (I'm hoping that Oakland is too cold for both Africanized bees and Small Hive Beetles...)

I sort of decided when I started beekeeping, that when the SHB came to Placerville, I would stop beekeeping. But of course, now I am so involved that I will not let this stop me either.
