Title: Not much honey this harvest
Post by: papabear on July 14, 2010, 08:21:13 PM
One hive and I harvested 5gal from two deep supers. Last year this hive gave me 11gals with the same amount of deeps. What makes all the difference?

weather.  neighbors mowing fields down.  hive size/health.

i had 3 years that were crappy and it looks like this year will be good.  i thought it was going to be bad because of all the rain we had in spring.  lost almost all of the early spring nectar flow, but the rain brought on a massive early summer flow.

some years are like that.....

I haven't gotten any surplus yet this year but have my fingers crossed that when the goldenrod comes on I will get some.  They are hitting the thistly real hard right now but looks like that will mostly be for them.

I bet the wax was drawn out twice as thick last year in the frames.
