Title: Sumac smoker fuel
Post by: TheMasonicHive on July 16, 2010, 09:18:11 PM
I cut down some staghorn sumac the other day.

Does it need to be dried before it is used?  I've got it on a queen excluder in my garage to let air get all around it, but I'm curious if its just something you can take right from the tree and pop straight into your smoker?

Yet another great use for a queen excluder!

I do not know for sure, but I cut some as well, and have it on screens drying.

dried sumac fruits burn a lot better if dried...and taste better mixed with water and sugar if picked fresh :)

Wildbeekeep, would you PM me, or explain here for that matter, how to make the sumac "lemonade"?  I have been curious about both the smoking and the lemonade.  :)  Thanks!

You don't need to "cut it down" you need to pick the dried fruit.
