Had a chat with the bees today, I believe they are about to go on strike! they say the thistle is done blooming, Knapweed is sparse and no clover or dandelions! They are not impressed with queen anns lace and say from now until the goldenrod blooms they are not going to be doing much of anything. Not surewhat to do. Offered to plant some buckwheat and they basically laughed that off and told me goldenrod will be in by the time that does any good? Seems like a no win for management right now. Talks will continue but I don't seem to be getting anywhere!
you may have to break a wing or two although i'm not sure you are really conducting negotiations since bees are far too ambitious and industrious to be unionized. is it possible you have wandered into a nigerian email scam ?
Dang it, my union has decided to support yours and has gone on strike, too. They have set up a picket line across the front of the hive. Union-bee-bosses are rocking back and forth, ranting about all the Queen Ann's Lace blooming in front of the hive and the sorry lack of clover in the field below. Talks will not resume until hot working conditions are fixed and management has provided a better pollen payload.
Management has dealt with these demands by making a significant and artistic investment into the HVAC system in the form of fossilized rocks between the inner cover and telescoping cover. But now they are asking about a better healthcare plan. Little buggers don't appreciate the feng shui of fossilized rocks. (Neither does management but we like to mess with their minds.)

Bee:mail! Now that's a scary thought. Or maybe they invented it.
just place a can of Raid bee killer at the entrance that usually makes them cross the picket line
If it were me, I'd take all of their capped honey forcing them to work overtime till the first frost.

that's what i like !!! Jersey tactics !!!
I guess that the mods left the door unlocked.
I like to discuss things about honeybees.
GoodBye.
ya know, bob, there is this thing called choice. radical idea, but it means that you don't have to read or RESPOND to posts that you don't like. besides, this is about bees. even i, who often go off track, can see that.
pointing can of Raid at bobn :soapbox: :soapbox:
Not to worry as congress passed a law to extend their benefits for over 2 years while we discuss it. On a more serious note this years summer dearth seemed to start a little early and be dryer than normal. I've all ready had to put feeders on.
just the opposite here. we had tons of rain in the spring but it quit just in time for the berry bloom. because of all the rain, the bloom on everything has been fantastic and extended. our temps have been below average and that has kept things blooming longer. finally! i think i get some honey this year.
Start a rumor going around the hives that you are hiring some scab help; bumblebees and yellow jackets! Maybe that will put a stinger up their butts!!
You all are cracking me up! Well, all except BoBn
gee Bob, you must be a ton of fun at a funeral.
From the rather serious nature of discussions here, this was a welcomed bit of humor, pretty dang talented crew here, that was some funny stuff.... :-D
