Title: combo and requeene
Post by: rgy on July 28, 2010, 11:28:16 AM
I am going to give the two bad nuc's I bought ONE more chance this weekend.  I am ordering a queen today hoping I will get it fri. or sat.  i need to combine the two nucs and requeen and the kicker is the one of the nuc's has to be moved to the other location.  How should I do it?  this is what I am thinking. Both nucs are in tenn frame brood box but have drawn nothing more and very few brood/larvae/eggs.

close up the mover at night. and move it over to the location.
find and kill both queens.
get my new queen.
put the caged queen in bottom brood box.
one piece of newspaper on top.
put other nuc on top of paper.
inner cover and outer cover.

check in 3/4 days.

When you say 'bad nucs', what do you mean by that?  What are they doing or not doing?

not doing anything.  put them in 10 frame box mid June and they haven't drawn any new comb, very very few larvae and even less eggs and brood.  I think both queens need replacing.  I was going to just let them either make it or die but decided to give them ONE last chance and get a new queen and combine them so they have half a chance to build up for winter survival.  i think big black carpenter ants decimated one of them.
