Title: The house is going to be tented for termites...What about the bees?
Post by: Helmuthd on August 22, 2010, 05:16:31 PM
I found out from my landlord that in 3 weeks my house and garage are going to be tented for termites.  I just established a new hive one week ago, and looks very healthy so far.  I have the hive about 15 feet away from the garage.  Two questions:

Is there a risk of the bees swarming out of my hive after I move them to the new temporary location?

How long should I wait before I bring the bees back to my home?

Thank you,
Helmuthd

Disclaimer: I myself am very new at this, so this is from reading and talking to others.

Pick a temp. location a few miles away. Close up the hive entrances and secure all the parts (to keep eerything together while moving). Do this after dark and move. Open at new location but keep entrance reduced.

Do the move back after safe conditions exist at home.

Pee Vee's pretty much right on. Move them far enough away, a mile or more if you want to move them. You could even move them a little at a time and just keep them in your yard.

The procedure won't hurt the bees one bit if you kept them right where they are but if you feel you need to get them out of the way...
