Title: Gentle bees becoming testy!
Post by: MeadFarm on August 24, 2010, 03:18:20 PM
I have been stung more in the past month than I have in my entire life! I understand that the alarm pheromone sticks around on clothes and such until washed (not the issue).
And one of the times I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time - I was watching the entrances for pollen coming in and a yellow jacket landed on the bottom board. The bees immediately attacked! I got one under my eye (I think the yellow jacket got away...the little *#%@)
Is the more aggressive behavior due to lack of nectar perhaps? I sure hope my otherwise friendly bees aren't becoming aggressive.

Could be the time of the year, maybe the hive is being harassed by other creatures, and as you said lack of nectar. I know when it comes closer to fall here the bees get so bad about be aggressive. No one gets stung that I know but there sure is a lot of head butting going on.

Seems unfair that I have to suit up during the hottest time of the year! Oh well, that's the price we pay.

Im pretty sure there are some post from last year where people were getting stung for no reasona nd the defence for the hives was strong.
