Title: Bees Washboarding (Video)
Post by: MrILoveTheAnts on August 24, 2010, 03:45:19 PM
Bees Washboarding (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbwumXVTOz8&feature=sub#ws)

Alex Wild is an insect photographer and has recently returned to his the joy of Backyard Beekeeping. He posted this video about a month ago and I think it's a shame it only has 500 or so views. I'm posting it here to change that.

That said, Wow I've never seen a hive washboarding that much! With my hives it's always a few dozen if that.

I have a hive that does this too , Its in the middle of six hives so i thought that they where trying to distinguish it from the other hives.
I will have to take a closer look next time.

Been watching my bees do that and was wondering what they were up to.  Now I at least know there is an official name for it:  washboarding.  Great video.  Thanks for posting.

Thanks Mr I L T A !
Neat video.  I saw one lonely bee out on the porch of a small 3 frame hive today and thought that was what he was doing, and now I know.  I hope she spreads the word and I get to see it some more.
