I have two hives I need to move, and I have a truck.
I was going to wait until night to move them, and switch the door way to a winter entrance. When placed in the truck I was going to use some wire mesh to allow for some ventilation.
We have a two hour trip, and I was going to spend the night at a house and then get up early the next morning and deliver them to their destination. Is that alright to leave the Bee's overnight in the back of a truck?
Any issues, ideas, or suggestions are welcome.
You shouldnt have any problem doing what you said just make sure they have ventilation at the entrance. Make sure you put the bees in a good spot that will be permanent the bees will learn their new location. Put some grass clippings at the front door so the bees dont just fly off this way they will learn their new flight patterns.
Dont switch them to a winter entrance just put a screen over the entrance they need that air ciculation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you have screened bottom boards they'll be OK. If not, then screen the entrances; don't close them off with reducers.
And at two hours away you don't need the grass clippings...that is normally used when making splits or moving the hive within the same bee yard.
