I use the plastic frames, and one side of a medium frame has honey almost capped and the other side has brood, no i didnt use a queen excluder, and just a week ago that frame was full of honey on both sides. They really move stuff around in the hive dont they?
Yeah, they do. More and more I'm thinking of doing what Michael B. does and going to all Mediums so I can move stuff around whenever I want to.

They sure do. I have two deeps and mediums on my hives. She only lays drones in my supers and only a handful. For some reason she like to lay in foundationless frames first. Fine with me, I just harvest comb honey and cut out the brood.
Typically the reason she lays in the supers is that the wax is soft and they can build drone cells and there are not enough drone cells in the brood nest. If you let them have as much drone comb as they want in the brood nest she will seldom lay in the supers.
So do think putting in a green drone frame maybe one per hive will keep her out of the super ?
It may be ok as long as you pull and freeze that frame before they hatch out and you are over run with drones and mites.
It's easier and cheaper to put an empty frame in the brood nest... but yes. I have never frozen them and most of my hives have about four or five medium frames of all drone comb in the brood nest.
did the flow stop-the bees are moving up to the feed drone cells or not 8-) if you want honey pull it and feed till fall flow starts-your bees will consume much of the honey if they are still rearing brood-RDY-B

Must be nice. Hopefully the goldenrod here kicks in now that we got a LITTLE rain last night. Been a couple of weeks since I've been to the hives but hopefully they were able to bring in a good amount since I was out there last.
bassman it was one week , and the hive was full of honey, thbe previous week nada . so when they want to work , the girls do a good job
