I am currently down to three hives; all Langs. Both my TBH's absconded, and one of the Langs went queenless and developed laying workers. I had a successful combine of that hive with a single deep hive. All three hives have good, laying queens now, and the bees are bringing in pollen. However, this summer was so hot and dry, there has been no nectar in the summer and fall flowers. Acres and acres of goldenrod and sneezeweed, just no nectar in them. My hives are bone dry. The girls ate all that they had and haven't been able to replace it. I started feeding one hive two weeks ago, and will start feeding the other two later this week. There will be absolutely no honey to harvest this fall. On the bright side, I had a great spring harvest! I just hope we get enough rain to get the nectar flowing for the girls. I don't want to have to take out a loan to buy enough sugar!! I guess beekeeping is like marriage; you take the bad with the good! :-D
Take out the loan for the sugar. It will still be cheaper than buying new bees in the spring.
I'm in the same boat. Bees are bringing in pollen like it's going out of style, but honey is dropping. I'm going to panic early and start feeding now...
