Title: Wax on top of crush and strain
Post by: slacker361 on September 26, 2010, 10:20:43 AM
How do you guys get the wax off of the top of your crush and strain? You know that stuff that made it through the paint strainer and is floating on top.

I don't. I like it there. It makes it look more raw and natural.

you'll probably find that it's not so much wax, but bubbles from the honey dripping down. kind of a foam.  i just leave it.

If you do want to remove most of it, use a piece of cardboard and skim it to one side and use a large spoon and scoop it up. I scoop off some but like iddee, I tell customers that is "the good stuff".

You get wax on top of any of it, extracted or crush and strain, if you mean that skim on top of the honey.  A piece of saran wrap laid on top and pulled off takes it off nicely.  If you flip it over on a paper plate you can use a rubber spatula to put it on you toast for a couple of days...
