Title: Trap out in Houston
Post by: Highlandsfreedom on September 26, 2010, 07:35:05 PM
I have a questin as I only know about working bees in Colorado.  My cousin has a colony in his brick house down in Houston and wants me to get them.  I live in Dallas and am currently beeless here in Dallas.  I think it will take a trapout to get them without having to do major surgery.  I can do it but
a) its a 6 hr trip one way
     1) but its Houston I would get to see the beach alot and do a little fishing too
b) its soon to be October and I don't know how it would work in the winter but it is Houston

Should I wait till spring time or being it is Houston could I do the trap out and just keep them down there in Houston till late Feb. and bring them back up here to Dallas?  I really want to keep bees here locally as I sold all my bees when I moved here in June and I am running out of honey..... boo hoo....
Also is a trap out the best idea for the girls?  I need to get up in the attic and look but with the time I have with a trap out and they can do daily checks on the capture box for me.  I just really don't know about the weather.  Any advice would be GREAT.

Thanks,
Dave

I think I would wait on spring.  Trap out would be easy if there is only 1 escape.

You're going to have to find either young brood or a queen for the trapped bees to flourish..do you have those resources?

Yes I can get a frame of eggs for the job.  If they still lay in the south this late I know in Colorado I would be waiting till spring time but Im not sure about Houston and the south.
