Title: Bee Stings versus Bee Stings
Post by: Stlnifr on September 28, 2010, 08:43:03 PM
It has been a long time since I have been stung by a honey bee so I can't remember the reaction I had. But just this summer while working in the woods I made the mistake of moving and old log I got stung in the back 27 times from what the wife counted by yellow jackets. Question do you think a honey bee sting would be worst than those yellow jackets. The yellow jackets set my back on fire.

To me a yellow jacket is worse, and they start getting very ill tempered this time of year anyway.

Yellow jacket is worse.   IMO anyways.  Those buggers don't let up and will sting several times also.

I think yellow jackets are one of the worst stings on the planet, they just don't give up.

They all hurt but it what happens after the sting that sets the YJ apart for me. YJ stings swell and itch bad.   Honey bee sting are forgotten moments after they happen

I'm with Danno on this.  Yellow Jackets stings itch for several days after.  For me the swelling is worse too.

A Honey bees sting hurts for a few minutes then is mostly gone.

Those yellow jacket stings are worse by far. My husband just got stung on the lip by one yesterday moving some brush and his lip swelled so far off his face he looked like a cartoon character, it freaked me out. He said it hurt wicked bad too and he gets stung by the honeybees all the time and those never phase him.
I got stung on the hand by one just sitting at a picnic table at the park eating a sandwich, no provoking necessary, thats what I really do not like about them.
Someone told me the other day that the venom from the yellow jackets can cause some type of damage to the nervous system but I haven't looked into it to verify it but I wouldn't be surprised.

I guess everyone reacts differently.  I hate HB stings to my fingers.  It does not happen ofter but when they do I am miserable for days.  My fingers swell, get red, get hot, and itch like there's no tomorrow for days.

I just took one in the knuckle of my index finger 3 days ago and it wake me up at night and I want to scratch and scratch but I have learned to refrain.

When I get it in the finger I go back to gloves for awhile.........I got is a few days ago just checking feeders.

That use to happen to me alot too when I got hit on the fingers but for some reason lately I don't have any reaction to them, maybe I built up a tolerance to them at this point because I have gotten stung on the hands this summer more than I want to, even through gloves.
