Today watching the traffic come and go from the hive I noticed a lot of drone activity. Mostly a lot of drones coming in for landing but many taking flight as well. I would have thought the drones would be kicked out now or soon. I don't watch the coming and going at the hive all that much, but the heightened activity was very notable. Is this normal for this time of year? Does it signal maybe the hive requeened itself? My neighbors have a few hives, if his drones were kicked out of their hive would mine take them in? I did see one worker bee wrestling with a drone below the hive entrance, but I saw probably 20 - 25 land and enter the hive with no hassle in 1 minute.
Thanks in advance for any comments!
John
Drones can come and go from hive to hive. They are only kicked out when food stores are lacking or they winter cluster. It was suck a nice day, maybe they were just flying about.
